Happy St. David’s Day | Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus
Today, everyone in Wales celebrates in honour of the patron saint of Wales, St. David (or Dewi Sant in Welsh).
March 1st is one of the most colourful days of the year here where you’ll find everyone wearing either bright yellow daffodils, green leeks or traditional Welsh dress. There’s always parades, concerts, and most importantly good food!
Wales is our home, and it was the Welsh countryside that was key in inspiring our founder, Carl Gough, to create BUG® for men.

Celebrate St. David’s day by cooking something Welsh such as Welsh cakes, Welsh rarebit, or Glamorgan sausages.
Here’s a little recipe for if you want to give Welsh cakes a try:
- 110g/4oz salted butter, cut into cubes, plus extra for greasing
- 225g/8oz self-raising flour, sieved, plus extra for dusting
- 85g/3oz caster sugar
- Handful of sultanas/chocolate chips
- 1 free-range egg, beaten
- Splash of milk, if needed
Rub the butter into the flour to make breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and sultanas/chocolate chips, then stir in the egg. Mix, then form a ball of dough. Use a splash of milk if needed.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is 5mm/¼in thick. Cut it into 7.5cm/3in rounds using a cutter.
Rub a heavy iron griddle with butter and wipe the excess away. Put it on a direct heat and wait until it heats up.
Place the Welsh cakes on the griddle and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until slightly brown.
Remove from the pan and dust with caster sugar while still warm.
